Getting started

What is HiveHelper?

HiveHelper is an iOS app for beekeepers that makes it easy to log inspections, track Varroa mite levels, and get AI-powered guidance after every hive visit. It's built for hobbyist and sideliner beekeepers who want to stay on top of their colonies without carrying a notebook to the apiary.

What devices does HiveHelper run on?

HiveHelper is available on iPhone running iOS 17 or later. An iPad version is not currently available, but we're considering it for the future.

Do I need an internet connection to use the app?

You can log inspections and browse your hive data offline. Inspection data syncs automatically when you're back online. AI-powered features like HiveHelper Insights require a connection.

I'm a brand-new beekeeper. Is HiveHelper right for me?

Absolutely. HiveHelper is designed with beginners in mind. The inspection form walks you through what to look for, and HiveHelper Insights explains what your observations mean so you learn as you go.

Subscriptions & pricing

Is HiveHelper free?

HiveHelper has a generous free tier that includes one hive, unlimited inspection history, basic logging, and three full AI Insights responses. Pro unlocks unlimited hives, unlimited AI guidance, the mite trend chart, seasonal task calendar, season summaries, weather auto-capture, and CSV export.

How much does Pro cost?

Pro is $4.99/month or $49.99/year (about $4.17/month — a 17% saving). Both plans include a 7-day free trial so you can try everything before you're charged.

How does the free trial work?

When you subscribe, you get full Pro access for 7 days at no cost. You won't be charged until the trial ends. You can cancel anytime during the trial in your iPhone's Settings > Subscriptions and you won't be billed.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open your iPhone's Settings > tap your name > Subscriptions > HiveHelper, then tap Cancel. Your Pro access continues until the end of the current billing period. HiveHelper cannot cancel subscriptions on your behalf — Apple handles all billing.

What happens to my data if I cancel Pro?

Nothing. All your inspection data, notes, and hive records stay exactly where they are. You just lose access to Pro features like unlimited hives, the mite chart, and full AI guidance. If you re-subscribe later, everything is still there.

Can I share my subscription with family members?

Not at this time. Each Apple ID needs its own subscription. Family Sharing support may be added in a future update.

Features

What are HiveHelper Insights?

After you log an inspection, HiveHelper Insights reviews your notes and flags what matters — queen concerns, stores running low, mite trends that need attention. Think of it as a second pair of experienced eyes on every visit. Free users get three full Insights responses; Pro users get unlimited.

How does Varroa mite tracking work?

Log your alcohol wash or sugar roll count during an inspection and HiveHelper tracks it over time. Pro users get a visual mite trend chart with threshold lines at 2% and 3% so you can see exactly when treatment is needed.

What can I export?

Pro users can export their full inspection history as a CSV file — useful for sharing with a mentor, bee club, or state inspector. Export is available from the History tab.

What is the seasonal task calendar?

A month-by-month guide of what to do and when. It surfaces timely tasks based on the season — spring buildup, summer nectar flow, fall mite treatments, winter prep. Free users see the current month's header; Pro unlocks all 12 months of tasks.

Data & privacy

Where is my data stored?

Your hive and inspection data is stored securely in the cloud using industry-standard encryption. Data syncs across sessions so you never lose your records, even if you switch phones.

Does HiveHelper sell my data?

No. We do not sell, share, or monetize your personal data or inspection records. Period.

Can I delete my account and all my data?

Yes. You can permanently delete your account from the Settings screen in the app. This removes all your data from our servers — hive records, inspections, and your account. This action cannot be undone.

Where can I read the full privacy policy?

Our privacy policy is available at matrixnj.com/privacy. It covers exactly what data we collect, how it's used, and your rights.

Troubleshooting

My subscription isn't showing as active.

Try restoring your purchase from the paywall screen in the app. If that doesn't work, make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to subscribe. Subscription status can sometimes take a few minutes to update after purchase.

I found a bug or the app is crashing.
